'OVERLANDERS'
APPLAUDED
Australian Film

LONDON, [September 18. A.A.P.-
Enthusiastie applause broke out at
the end of the first showing of the
long-awaited Australian fihn, "The
Overlanders" before a specially in
vited audiuence of English finm execu
tires, Press representatives and Aus
tralian officials. It is expected to be
a marked success in English theatres.
The editing of the film and pre
paration for exhibition took many
months. "The Overlandcrs" brougiht
nostalgic memories to many of those
present. It is expected that the
morelty of the Australihn scenCe and
the stirring action photography, es
pecially the cattle stamnpede and the
elements of suspense in many inci
dents will have a big appeal.
The Deputy High Conmmissioner
(Mr. nMighell) and the Agents-Gen
eral, MIessrs. MlcCnun, Tally and
Pike, all of whom have known much
of the country in the film, confirmed
its atmospheric authenticity.
They believe the film will captivate
Englisih critics and audiences, as well
as attract emigrants to Australia.
The Director (IMr. Watt) and the
leading actor (Chips Rafferty), who
were in the audience, were showered
with. congratulationss.
World to See "Smithy"

Corporation hlst announced that the
Australian fihn "Smnithy" will be'dis
tributed throughout the world after
United States and Canadian releases.
