'STRIVE FOR
NATIONAL GOVT.'
Citizen's League
to Mr. Hill
ELECTION STAND
In a letter to the Premier (Mir. Hill)
outlinink the Citizen's -'League's attitude
to the Parliamentary Labor Party, the
president (Mr. Queale) iurges the -Pre
mier to strive for the formation of. a
National Government to continue the
State's rehabilitation pirogramme in accor
dance with the Premiers' plan.
It is understood that the letter pays a
tribute to the work of the Hill Govern
ment, but points out that the league can
not pledge its support at the elections to
any one Dolitical..nirty believing that in
the present financial crisis policy should
come before party.
Mir. Queale's letter,. which the- Premier
iwil'piro f b referto neitTueFfsdy ladpry
meeting,- is of great political significanee,
lbecause of the impression previously
formed in Parliamentary circles that the
Citizens' Leagtue would use all its resources
in the coming fight to secure the return
of Government candidates.
LEAGUE DEFINES POLICY
i The executive of the league definitely
determined its election policy at a meet
ing last night, when the terms of Mr.
Qnueale's letter were endorsed.
SThe.,meeting decided to act indepen
dently of the political parties in support
ing approved candidates. It' 'was also
agreed that a time limit should be: fixed
in which the district committees would
hear the views of candidates so that they
could decide upon the order of. their sup
port.
All candidates running under the Citi
zens' League "ticket" 'will.be 'asked to
give an "undertaking that' if .elected to
Parliament they will support the, forma
tion of a National Government to carry
out the Premiers' plan..
CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
.A campaign committee is being formed.
It will meet soon to draw up a plan of
action consistent with the league's politi
cal policy.
Last night's decisions mean' that in
some districts' the aleague will: be run
ning ,"tickets" comprised. of both Gov
ernment' and L.CL. candidates.
It might happen that in certain dis
tricts the league will be obliged to give
its support to independents or to endorse
its own candidates if in its opinion there
are ixisuflicient suita'ble candidates offerinu
from' either of the political parties com
mitted to the Premiers plan to complete
the.league "'ticket."
-The league's sole aim' is' to have elected
to. the new Parliament the best men avail
able who are prepared 'to support a Na
tional: Government for 'continuing the
Premiers' plan.
