MANAGERS' REPORTS.
I Amalgamated West Tasmania, August
15. During the past week the level has
been extended 14ft.. total 150ft. The last few
feet the reef has been small. The stopes
continue to turn out a fair quantity of good
payable stone. Have sunk the winze from
the 150ft. level 16ft.. and have holed through
to rise. We are erecting new poppet legs,
and will finish same about Tuesday next.
Albion Prospecting Association (Dan's
Rivulet, Mathinas).-We are raising very
good stone. The reef varies in thickness
from 2ft. to 4ft. and 5ft. Have not broken
into the large body of stone yet ; where we
are working there is about 2ft. of stone
showing splendid gold. The stone shows
gold very Ii eely.
Commandant, August 6-1 and two men
have been for past week engaged in northern
claim clearing level, cutting down scrub on
surface, and taking bearings. Two men engaged
in No. 2 shaft have extended cross-
cut 6ft. south and 4ft. north. Country light
sandstone.
East Volunteer, August 17. Extended
drive 12ft. ; reef about 2ft. very nice looking
stone full of mineral, but no gold yet. I
thought I should have had gold before this,
as I am getting exactly same stone in Volunteer
carrying good gold.
East Pinafore, August 15 Started the
machinery on Saturday evening, and everything
worked well. Pumped down the
water as far as the pumps were down, and
will lower the pumps to the next stage this
morning. I have put on three shifts to day,
so that we will be able to continue lowering
the pumps night and day until we get the
water out. I have been delayed considerably
through the staging being left in the
shaft
Great Northern, August 13. During the
week drive at No. 2 level has advanced a
further distance of 11ft.; total from crosscut,
140ft. At 133ft., stone made on foot
wall. being small at first but is now 2ft. wide
of a very promising appearance ; expect to
God this stone carrying gold soon.
Great Western, August 13. During the
week the West drive has been extended a
farther distance of 16ft, making 30ft. from
crosscut. The east drive driven 10ft. The
prospects continue the same as last reported.
It has been necessary to suspend operations
on this shaft for a time on account of the
water being so heavy, caused by so much
rain and surface drainage. Will continue to
prospect further west where fair prospects
have been obtained at a shallow depth.
Little Wonder, August 15. During the
past week the crosscut at the 400ft. level
has been extended 3ft, total from shaft,
100ft. At present In hard country.
New Brothers' Home No. 1, August 3.
Main drive at old intermediate level extended
a further distance of 16ft, total
from opening 125ft. In poor ground, and
am now turning to go more east to a block
of solid ground. Output, 1 ton,
aVeio Golden Gale, August 13. The main
shaft has been sunk a farther depth of 13ft,
making a total of 95ft. from plat. The
cook sunk through consists of light blue
slate, good for blasting, and everything that
can be desired for reef bearing. No. 5 level.
-The winze on main reef north of crosscut
sunk 7ft. Reef in bottom of winze looking
very promising. The south drive on main
reef extended a total distance of 146ft. from
crosscut. This drive is now being driven on
the hanging wall portion of reef. The reef
at this point has the appearance of being a
very large body of stone. It will be some
time before we will be in a position to cross-
cut to the footwall to ascertain its size. The
south drive on Loane's roof extended a total
of 94ft from crosscut. The reef is dipping
fast to the south, and the drive is now
into the large body of stone showing near
the shaft at No. 4 love From all appearances
we may fully expect this reef to be
found large and payable to a great depth.
All the stopes are looking well, the machinery
is in good working order, and the prospects
throughout the mine are very bright. From
300 tons quartz crushed we obtained 45oz.
of amalgam from plates and ripples.
New Eldorado, August 15.- The crosscut j
his been extended 7ft. for the week ; total from
shaft 20911. Country still hard and
difficult to work.
-Veto Pinafore, AugUst 15. During the
past week the No 4 level has been extended
12ft. east front crosscut. The ground has
been very troublesome, and on that account
it will be necessary to leave a few feet more
about the shaft. The footwall drive is
making much stronger in the back of drive
and the water has very much increased.
The shaft has been skidded to bottom, and
after laying flat sheet rails, etc., will open
out west. No. 3 level The western drive
has been undergoing repairs, conse
' quently no driving has been done on north
branch No 2 Winze sunk and timbered
7ft.; total, 11ft. The reef is the full width
of range and no sign of footwall yet ; it is
carrying very fair gold and a tight for working.
The stopes have been turning out the
us and amount of payable stone. No. 2 level
-The eastern drive is being cleared up and
a few repairs effected. Tenders for driving
same have been invited. Sinking the main
shaft will he resumed after overhauling the
portable engine. The battery has been
kept fully employed ; the plates are looking
fair. Machinery at mine and battery are
working well ,
Old Boys, August 13. East drive at No
3 level extended 13ft.; total, 152ft. The
formation is 3ft. wide and carries a good
deal of mineralised quartz. The rise is up
25ft. above back of level.' The lode has
gradually widened to 4ft of solid stone, and
is improving in quality.
Reunion, August is Finished underhand
stope at No. 1 level and started size. No.
2 level only driven 4ft. total 55ft. New
make of stone now 4ft. wide, making total
width 9ft. Have not seen any gold. Will
start with cargo on Tuesday and push on No.
2 level in order to start stoping as soon as
possible. Started crushing on 6th inst.
about 40 tons from No. 2 level, mill going
10 hours per day. When this is through
will start on stone from No. 1 level.
Volunteer, August 13. During week have
finished logging up passes, and fixed ladder
suva. Extended upper level west, and
broke through with rise. Reef in stopes averages
about 2ft., good gold. Bottom level west
about 18in. in bank showing fair gold ; 63
loads carted to battery : crushed 50 tons for
71 oz. amalgam, plates and ripples roughly
scraped.
West Adelaide, August 16 -During the
fortnight I have been prospecting in different
place, but have not come across anything of
importance, and therefore started to trench
on the course of the lode we already have,
and about four chains distant from our
underlay shaft. I found it the same as
when first discovered, and about the same
width. I found canary ore in the stone I
got trenching, but so far have not seen any
u the lode, but I have not sunk on it much'
yet. I went another chain and a half further
on and found it again, better looking if anything.
I will try further on still and get
samples from each place after sinking a
little, and which will, I think, prove that
the lode is a permanent one.
Welcome Prospecting Association, August
13. For the past fortnight put on two men
M instructed, and have driven during that
time about 14ft. south. After reaching the
hanging wall started driving west la centre
of formation. Driven 3ft,, and will continue
doing so, as there is a slight improvement in
prospects. Stone much stronger underfoot.
West Pinafore, August 15. Have been
engaged in repairing the main level and
will have the same finished to-day and able
to commence working Stone in stopes from
boundary where the Pinafore has squared
their stoped up to our boundary, showing a
fair sized lode, and carrying payable gold
Have been breaking stone in stones west,
and west from north rise. Lode formation
between walls 3ft thick, which shows gold.
Are making preparations for sinking winze
from our hatton level Commenced crush-
ing with 10 heads last Thursday. Hope to
be able to keep the 15 heads going at the
battery as soon as level is completed.
Maoklncry at mine and battery working
well.
Western Silver, August 11. During week
have been engaged bagging and delivering
ore. The contractor is getting on with the
erection of poppet heads, and expects to
raise turn the beginning, of next week.
Erection of machinery is going on The
bed logs are down and horsing for cargoes
is being put in position.
