NEWCASTLE CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE.
Tan usual fortnightly meeting of the com
mitteb of the Newcastle Chamber of Com
merce took place yesterday afternoon, the
following members being present:-Messrs.
G. Bowick (vice-president), W. B. Sharp,
D. J. M'Lean. R. A. Wallace, A. Fenwiok,
and Captain Williams Apologies for non
attendance were received from the president
and Mr. Hall.
Correspondence re graving dock and dupli
cation of hydraulio crane pipes, &o., was
dealt with.
Messrs. Bewick and Wallace, two mem
bers of the deputation who waited on the
Colonial Treasurer last week with reference
to quarantine and tonnage dues, gave a report
of the proceedings, which was unanimously
adopted, and a vote of thanks was passed to
the members of the deputation.
Captain WTrmrua brought under the
notice of the committee the fact that vessels
which were under the cranes during the time
of the strike of the crane employees were
cilled upon to pay tonnage rates for the
whole time they occupied the cranes, no
allowance being made for the time lost
through no men being obtainable to work the
cranes.

already moved in this matter.
This terminated the business.
