A concert in connection with the
Wesleyan Sabbath-school was held in
the chapel on Saturday evening, and
was most successful. The chapel, which
was tastefully decorated, was filled in
every pai-t, some being unable to
obtain admittance. The chair was
taken by the Rev. Mr. Hopkins, and
a long and varied programme was
gone through, each item being well
received. The opening piece, by the
choir, under the direction of Mr. Geo.
Bowden, entitled "Up for Jesus
Stand," was followed by prayer. An
organ solo was played by Miss E.
Emerton, *who also contributed a
musical selection entitled "The
Hallelujah Chorus." Following came
a song by Mr. Payne, "L' The Landing
of the Pilgrim. Fathers," and
a duet and quartette by members of
the choir. "The Holy City" was
nicely given by Miss Llewellyn, who
also sang "The song that reached my
heart." Two choruses were rendered
by the scholars-" Hosanna in the
highest" and " Our festive day so
bright;" and Miss E. Carpenter sang
" The song of Saul before his last
battle," and later on "Charity." Miss
R. Payne contributed " Ave Maria,"
and " O, ye tears" was given by Miss
A.Payne. A solo and chorus by Mr.
R. Buxton and choir was well sung,
and "The old sexton" was Mr.
James' selection. "Far away" was
rendered by Miss Simons, and recita
tions were given by Mr. Jordan, Miss
Nellie Jordan, and Miss Annie Avard.
The choir also sang two anthems
"The Lord is good" and "I will both
lay me down and sleep." The singers
were accompanied by Mibs Fenwick
and Miss Emerton. After the usual
votes of thanks the choir sang "The
Kingdom of the Saviour," concluding
a most successful anniversary.
