DANGER IN POLICY
ON DISPUTES
Comment by Premier
"My only hope is that in stream
lining arbitration, as Mr. Ward says
the Commonwealth Government is
doing. it does not prejudice the es
sential -tability of the structure,"
said the Premier (Mr. Playford)
today.
He was replying to criticism by
the Minister for Labor of his
(Mr. Playford's) remarks on Com
monwealth policy on the settlement
of industrial disputes.
Experience mn Europe had proved
that peace could not be maintained
by appeasement, the Premier
added. No doubt Mr. Ward rea
liced this as far as international
matters were concerned.- If he
had had more experience he would
appreciate that probably the same
factors would lead to the same re
sults in respect of other disputes.
There was no criticism in his
broadcast, Mr. Playford added, of
either Mr. Ward or his Govern
ment. "As a matter of fact I had
not thought of Mr. Ward at all in
the matter as he is only continuing
a policy that had been introduced
by a previous Government," Mr.
Playford said.
