Beyond compelling yearly registra
tion, the SA Governmen9 t will not ta x
interstate road hauliers.
The Roads Minister,
Mr. Jude, said this
today.
:No other charges on in
terstate transport operat
ors were contemplated at
present, he said.
In Melbourne last night
Mr. J. Collier, managing
director of Colliers?-Vic
toria's biggest interestate
road hauiliers-said if regis
tration fees were in lieu of
a road., maintenance tax
they were reasonable.
Mr. Jude said the
licensing of interstate
hauliers would be con
sidered again later.
Little loss here
The Premier, Mr. Play
ford, will explain the Gov
ernment's plans following
the recent Privy Council's
decision in the Assembly
late. this afternoon.
It is clear that
0 The SA Government
will not lose revenue from
road hauliers at anything
like the extent suffered by
NSW and Victoria.
O No increase would be
made in the registration
fees charged intrastate
hauliers.
O Interstate operators
will pay the same registra
tion fees as SA owners.
8 A11 registration fees
will be paid inta the High
ways Fund and used on
road, construction and
maintenance; and
0 Cabinet Is confident
registration fees on inter
state companies 'are vali1
within the meaning of Sec
ton 92 of the Constitution.
