SNORTH SHOW PROMISE
North Adelaide showed distinct pro
mise in their opening game against Uni
versity on the students' oval. Batting
was not particularly bright, but it was
well worth watching.
University have a good batting side
also, and are fair in the bowling depart,
ment, where Finey, Ohlstrom, Pridnmore,
Harbison, and Gun will be towers ot
strength later.
For a lirst match the game was inte
resting. Saturday's play was witnessed
by ,a good attendance, but for Wednes
day's game only a few gathered, and
these were disappointed owing to the
unfavorable weather.
S s
By far the brightest cricket was given
by Lance Pellcw and Lewis. They both
played soundly, PEllw rattling on !un&
much faster than his partner.
Both scored mostly on the ff. Pellew
was lucky, for he had two chances
dropped.
Lewis did not relish the bowling on*
the leg. It is about his only weakness.
Lewis. who was top of the averages
last year, is a solid cricketer.

Power and Blake were fair, while Hall
put together 17 in capable manner.
S S
T. I,. Jose and Brown proved better.
Together they were putting up a deter
mined stand until the lastnamed was
just run out by a good thrown in.
North did not do too badly. They
nearly touched the double century, and
their start impressed their supporters.
The bowling of University was not
startling, although Pridmore maintained
a nice length.

However, the students put up a much
better showing in the second innings.
Despite Gun's quick departure, Bednall
and Ohlstroni laid on the wood in fine
fashion, the firstnamed lifting Phillips
for six on to the tennis courts on one
occasion.
The game was left at an interesting
strage on Saturday. It was a pity that
rain prevented it being played out, as
there was proba.bility of a keen contest
resulting.
The captains made a wise move, how
ever, in anhandoning the match. The
pitch was in bad condition on WVednes
lay, and a heavy shower just before 3
o'clock settled any doubt that existed
as to the question of playing on.
