It is estimated ? irtrade' union circles
that between. 100,000 and 150,000 operative
builders are on strike.. Th-e. position, in
London is stated to be more serious thau
anywhere else.
It is understood that some employers
have conceded operatives the minimum de
mands of a halfpenny an hour increase
in pay and a guaranteed week.
The National Conference of Building
Employers recently decided on a lock
out from July 5 to enforce the observ
ance of national agreements, but subse
quently decided to postpone action until
the Court~of Enquiry appointed by the
Government had lea!t with the dispute,
Employes, however, declared that they
would not work unless their demands
were met.
