Visit to Australia

According to cable reports this morn
ing-Rene Lacoste the French tennis star
has decided to visit Australia at the end
of January. If this is correct it is good
news for all lovers of tennis for, although
Lacoste has only just turned "20 years of
age, he is one of the foremost ex
ponents of the racquet. He is almcost
"un-French" in his methods, not pos
sessing the volatile temperament of the
nation. lie plays a powerful and all
round game with calmness and precision.
He is charming to watch, and is ex
trnemely popular.
His most rccent performances of note
were; the winning of the. Wimbledon
singles -chamionship, and with Jean
_orotra the doubles championship in the
same tournament. In the former event
Lacoste met J. O. Anderson and de
fcatei him comfortably.
It is thouaht that Borotra. Cochet, and
Drugnon, all famous players, will ac
company Lacoste to Australia.
Borotra is a particularly spectacular
player jocularly dubbed "jumping jack."
lie makes the nace willing from tlhe
start, and there is rarely a dull moment
while he is on the court.
The proposed visit of the Frenchmen
is of special interest to South Austra
lians, as in addition to the possibility of
seeing them perform in Adelaide in a
test match against Australin's best team
they would be almost certain to com
pete in the Australasian championship
events, which will be hell in Adelaide
at the end of January next year.
