INTERSTATE GAME: TOMORROW
First with Western Australia since 1913
MANY YOULNG PLAYERS WILL PARTICIPATE
On the. Adelaide Oval tomorrow the interstate match with
Western Australia will begin. Not since 1913 have South Aus
tralia aind Western Australia measured' strides in a-cricket
match in Adelaide. On that occasion South Australia proved
the victors, winning by 365 runs.
Western Australia, although not counting too mnuch on
success against the strong local combination, considers that the
team will give South Australia a good gamc.
Tlhr. wcsternr:s arr;ved by, the East
West exprc?.s on Tuesday, and were met
by offieials of the South Australian
?Cricket Association and other enthu
siasts.
The object of the tour is to give the
players an opport?unity of gain
ing experience on the wickets
in Adelaide, Melbournrie, and Sydney
:against the best playcrs of the castern
Sta.tes. A large proportin, of the team
is young players, no fewer than five of
them being under 21 years of age. The
attitude of the ,Western Australian
Criicket As-ociation in providing funds
for the players to make the trip is com
mendable, and much good should result
from 'the visit.
Several altrcations have been made in
the team originally picked. From the
original selection L, Fremantle, J. IHer:
bert, and A. Hardie dropped out for
business reasons.
This is a distinct weakening to the
team, as Fremantle is one. of the best
all-round cricketc-rs in the TWVest. Herbert

is a champion field, and Hardie a good
country player.
F. Taafl, w ho has had inter
state experience, was selccted to fill one
of the vacancies, but he could not make
the trip.
i.embers of the team who made the
'trip .a're:-S. .D.D. Rowe (Claremont

Perth), and A. Drew and HI-I. Grigg
(Subiaco-Lrederville). Mr. A. C. itai
dall is manager.
S. H. D. ROWE (captain) is a sound,
reliable ba,t and at brilliant fic)d at mid
off. Agains.t A. O. Jones' English
Eleveli he scored a century, and he has
been a member of every WVestcern Aus
tralian representative team for many
years.
Ii. H. -IHIWSON (vice-captain) is tihe
first wicketkeeper. -e is a fair bat
and is captain of Subiaco, his club team.
P. F. QUINLAN is a good medium
pace, right-hand bowlvr, who flights the
ball well. H-e is a sound left-hand bats
man.
A. 5MEEK bowls a mredlunm pace ball.
GJ .is a good all-rounder, and a sound
opening bat.
L. (C. RENFPREY swings the ball both
ways, and maintains a good length all
day.
L. C. BOTT is a brilliant batsman and
has strokes all round the wicket.
F. ]IUTTSWORT'H, who is a sound
b?atsman, is als. a tireless bowler. lHe
figured prominently in a last wicket

Victoria. and .cored a century after
'ight wickets had fallen for loss than
100 runs.
\T. A. EVANS u, a good all-round
man and brilliant in any part of the
ield. He is a mediumn pace, right-hand
bowler, but bats left hand.
V. CARLSON has the reputa.tion of
being a sound right-hand,batsman.
IL CGRIGG. C. V. LOTON. A. DREW,
\i. INVERAIRTY, and R. RYANT are
the "babies:" of the team, all being un
lder 21 years of age.
Grigg. Drew, Inverarity, and Bryant
are batsmen who will help the score
along. Drew and Bryant did well
against G-llligan's team last year, Drew
batting against the best/bowlers for 27
not out. In a trial match against a
combined side on Saturday Bryant made
100 not out and Drew 50 not out.
Drew. as a left-hander, can handle the
hal well. Inverarity is also useful withi
his slows. Bryant sends down -a good
leg break. Loton. the second wickct
keeper. is sharp behind the sticks.
Variety in attack appears to be the
main weakness of the side. but this will
be set off by the smartness of the men
in the field.

by V. T. 'uIchardson (captain), A.
Ambler. C. V. Crimnmett; L. T. Gun, J.
