HAIR AND SKIN
CAUSES OF WRINKLES
Simple Treatment
It should be remembered that *the skin
of the head has precisely the same needs as
that of the rest of the body. When the
latter has been heated a bath or washing
of some.kind follows. The head, however,
is often' neglected and the perspiration
left to dry on the. scalp.
It needs little emphasising that in the
day of a busy housewife the head must
often become overheated. Therefore, if
her hair is not to become poor, brittle, or
prematurely grey, daily treatment of some
kind is necessary.
Moisture and friction are the life of
the scalp. Without these scurf quickly
forms and chokes the pores. With them
ldandruff disappears, and each hair cell
brings forth a healthy growth.
At night the roots of the hair from the
forehead to the back should be well rubbed
with the damp corners of a Turkish towel.
Tihe gloss that so many lotions purport
to supply can be successfully attained by
stroking the hair daily with two silk
hanldkerchiefs, one in each hand.
Hair should be "done" at least twice a
day, if possible near an open window.
Breeze and sunlight set free much hot
air that is imprisoned in the hair.
Grow Old Gracefully
It has been said that a wrinkle is' a
woman's worst enemy, but-those who are
young in spirit can grow old gracefully.
A little care ivill keep 'the lines gracious
and scine.
No creams,, no massage, and no skill
will keep wrinkles at bay for ever, and no
amount ot cunning can hide them once
they are marked.
The sensitive face, showing all the feel
ings which a sensitive person endures,
wrinkles quickly. The nervous tempera
ment, which makes many demands on the
vitality of the system, shows age long
before the phlegmatic temperament. The
latterifloats on the waters of life serenely,
1,0 matter how fiercely the winds may
blow.
In no sense of the word art women of
today as temperate as were their grand
mothers. Consequently they do- not pre
serve the same peacefulness in old age as
formerly.
A face without wrinkles is a face lack
ing character. .W'rinkle8 cannot be effaced.
They can be hidden under make-up or
toned down by treatment.. Massage, re
striction in the use of water for the com
plexion, simple living, and good hours are
all means toward softening the lines
caused by time.
Habit of Frowning
No face ought to show a line at less
than 40 years of age, and there is no need
for a skin to lose its freshness before 50.
Ill-health, wrong diet, sleeplessness, undue
worry, grimaces, and poor sight are all
causes of premature wrinkles.
The craze for slimness and the efforts to
reduce the size of thIe figure are a cause
of indentations, because the skin, once
filled out,. falls into folds as the fat is
removed.
The habit of flowning, whether in
temper, thought, or because of near.sight,
causes two wrinkles between the eyes.
The prevention is, naturally, a more satis
factory process than the bahishment of
them.
With patience. an intelligent'and regu
lar use of massage, and an unremitting
guard over health habits and a disposi
tion to look on the bright side of lifet a
the years advance, the complexion can be
kept clear and smooth 'until old age.
At the meeting of Brighton Council
held last night it was decided to accede to
the request of Somerleg Tennis Club to
topdress its courts, the club to pay half
cost. and the balance to be debited to
North Ward.
