ROUND THE SHOWS
"THE . ENEMY" .
Lillian Gish at Wondergaph
The story of a. love that withstood the
onslauglhts of wmr and its attendant in
sidious enemies-loneliness, hunger, and
poverty-is dramatically depicted in "The
Enemy,"' which opened at Wondergraph
Theatre today.
Happily married one minute, and the
next horror stricken as the strains of a
military march blend with those of the
wedding march, a young Austrian bride is
distraught when her newly married hus
band is forced to leave her.
A time of hardship follows for the young
wife. War as it is fought by the women,
children, and old men left behind is
yvividly depicted. How at last the man
and wife are reunited by the man they
called "The Enemy," is told with simple
sincerity in this unusual picture.
Lillian Gish gives an inspired charac
terisation of the young Austrian wife who
has ample reason to shudder when war is
mentioned. Ralph Forbes is cast as the
husband.
Balancing effects are arrived at admir
ably in "None But the Brave," with Sally
Phipps, Charles Morton, and Farrell Mac
Donald.
