STATE TEAM
Mr.' Dawes, Manager
FORMER FOOTBALLER
Mr. J. F. Dawes, who has been ap
pointed manager of the State team
to play in Melbourne on Saturday,
June 8, has had many years of foot
ball experience as a player and
official.
He first played for a team called East
Parade, anid joined South in 189S. -He
did not strip the following year, but ap
peared for the blue-and-whites in 1898. He
played until 19009, gaining interstate honors
against Victoria in 1899.
Mr. Dawes joinedl South committee
in 1009, and subsequently became chair
man of the club. He was elected secre
tary in 1912. lie was league delegate in
1911, and since that year has taken an
active part in the work of tlhat body. In
1919 he was chosen representative for
South Australin on the Australian Foot
ball Council. He retired from the posit
tion of secretary of South in 1924.
. This will be the second visit of MIr.
Dawes to another State as manager of a
State team. He went to Victoria in
1913.
