HIIDEN TREASURE
DEATH BED -CONFESSION
Money Buried in Ground
SPERTH, Today.
A peculiar case of huhting for hid
den treasure has been reported from
Osborne Park, a market gardening
centre, near Perth.
Last week a well-known resident, who
lives alone, was seized with acute lung
trouble, and he died within 48 hours.
Before he. passed away he disclosed to
relatives that in his wooden hut and in the
paddock he had hidden a large amount of
money. He mentioned that on a wall
of the hut they would find a plan show
ing where the plant was.
From certain remarks made by the dying
man and verbal directions given, the
search at last proved successful. Fiv-e par
cels of money wcre found hidden in dif
ferent places.
Three of the parcels, containing silver
coins, were found in the hut, which is
composed of one room, and the other two,
containing notes, were discovered in the
paddock.
A gold watch was also found buried
under an outhouse. The money and
watch had been concealed in tins, and
then placed in billycans. The money was
secured by relatives and given to the
widow of the dead man.
Digging operations occupied an hour.
and were conducted by a friend in the
presence of the wife and other relatives.
The deceased was a foreigner, and he
had been in the State for many years.,iHe
once lived on the goldfields. where he
married a local resident. He had suf
fered from miners' phthisis. but since
coming to Osborne Park had been one
of the best workers for the local agricul
tural society.
The reason hle gave for concealing the
money was to deprive his wife of main
tenauce, the couple having been separated.
Now, through the intervention of rela
tives, she will get' the lot.
