Leading jockeys who give up
race riding frequently turn their
attention to training horses. Others
settle down in business, but few
go "on the landl." However,
that is what George Lambert did a few
years ago when he retired from
the saddle. In his day Lambert was a pro
minent Victorian jockey. He was asso
ciated with tlhat great mare Traquette in
all of her victories, and hIe won good
races on Gold Brew\, Marculfus, Wishing
Cap, Abdication. Andelosia, andl other
members of the Orleigh Park team.
Lambert was successful on \Vilari in the
Victoria Derby, Urline in the Australian
Cup. Burrawang and Aludelosia in the
('aultield Guineas, and Uncle Sam in the
Cauifield Cup. For sonic years Lamnbert
rode with great success in India. On his
return a few years ago he took up a graz
ing property at Lystcrfield (Victoria).
Novwanday, he seldom, if ever, goes to races,
but he is not out of touch with the sport
altogether, as on his' property mlany horses
are enjoying a holiday. The property con
sists of 100 acres, andl is rich in variedi
gr1"asses.
