MELBOURNE, Today.
A confident tone permeated the market on
'Change this morning, increased dealings being
written and higher rates paid. Outstanding in
activlty was Broken Hill Proprietary, 3.200
shares being purchased at prk!es ranging be
tween 24/3, 24/6, and 24/2.
Trading in Commonwealth Government securl
ties amounted to £3,400 worth. The 5% per
cent. 1933 advanced to £99 7/6.
In the bankin gsection Commercial continued
their recovery to 24/, while the ex rights were
worth 23/6. an dthe rights strengthened to 2/.
Commercial of Sydney brought £21, while
National £5 paid were raised to £7 8/. The
advanced rate of 33/4% was forthcoming for
Gpldbrough, Mort. First sales in Brehney Bros.
were recorded at 20/, and in Castlemaine
Pcrklns at 18/6.
Amalgamated Zinc firmed to 11/5, and Aus
tralian Cement to 34/, but Australasian Paper
shaded to 16/6. Broken Hill Proprietary shares
were purchased at up to 24/6, with closing
sales 4d. lower, and Dunlops were taken at
21/10 and 21/8. "Herald" and "Times" were
quoted, ex rights, and had sales at 50/, later
buyers being prepared to give 50/6. Howard
Smith advanced to 18/6, and Victoria Nyanza
were worth 42/ and 41/10½.
In the silver-lead division Broken Hill South
were down 6d. at 58/. North Broken Hill
shaded to 58/, and Zinc Corporation to 36/6.
The lower rate of 36/1/ was accepted for
Mount Lyell. Ratrut Basin continued their
upward trend to 8/5, while Tongkah Compound
hardened to 31/. Roma Jumped to 19/, and
Taranaki were better at 4/6.
