PROBLEM
Cars Have to Stop
Half-mile Away
(By "The News" Motor Writer)
With the increasing popularity of
motor cars authorities at seaside resorts
are faced with the difflculty of deal;nz
with the parkine of vehicles during hot
spells.
At all the beaches near Adelaide last
night some motorists were unable to zet
within half a mile of the beach. At
.Glenelu all available space in the munici
pal car park was taken before sunset,
and many of the side streets were quickly
filled. "No parking" signs forced many
other motorists to the outskirts of the
town.
Business people at all of the seaside
resorts are anxious that more accomrro
;dation should be provided for visiting
motorsts. but residents resent the block
ing of their streets with thousands of
cars impairing access to driveways.
When a municipality ownIs ample pro
perty there is no reason why it cannot
be improved for parking purposes. Free
public-owned narkinue areas are as esscn
tial to municipalities or seaside town
ships as free public recreational facili
ties
