A warrant has been issued for tnc
arrest of a middle-aged womah who is
alleged to have passed a number of
valueless cheques amounting to - about
£700 in Adelaide last week while she
was .purporting to be planning -a new
night club in the city. It is believed
that the woman is now in Melbourne.
The woman. appeared to be semi
foreign, but said that she was not a
Jewess, although her husband was a
Jew.
It is said that she was formerly
known to the authorities in. Melbourne
undeir another name. She told trades
people that shq had previously carried
Son businesses -successfully in- Sydney
and Melbourne.
The first Adelaide firm. to have its
suspicions aroused was a motor corn
parny in *Gawler place, the principals
-of which th'ought that the woman ap
peared to be too free with the use of
her chequebook for the payment of
£350 for a 'car.
Businesses which within four days
suffered from the - woman's attentions
-included Foy &. Gibson, Pty. Ltd., K.
Hecker (frock - specialists), Gawler
Place Car Exchange, Oriental Hotel, H.
G. Cralbb (Hindley street refreshment
shop proprietor), A. -T. Wreford (land
agent), and Megaw &. Hogg (auc
tioneers).
