Check on Adelaide
Cafes Begins
The annual check of Adelaide
cafes and restaurants preparatory
to the issue of new licences in
January began today, with'inspec
tors from the Metropolitan County
Board and the Adelaide Local
Board of Health working together
for the first time.
The inspection is the first compllee
check of all Adelaide's eating houses
<ince the County Board announced re-,
cently that regulations coverint the
conduct of eating houses would be
ctrlctly enforced. War-time relaxatilons
of standards in some cafes had been'
overlook because of shortages and other
difficulttes for which the proorietors
could find no remedies.
The inspectors visited 12 caIe - thlis
morning, and hone to complete the 1751
on their lists within two months.
Common faults that were indicated
when the County Board announced
tightening of admtnittration of the re
quirements were:-Food exposed on
counters. cracked and chipped crockery.
handling of meats by hand instead of
with a fork. unsatisfactory cutlery, and
blowine in bags to open them.
A commission of inqiuiry to con
sider co-ordination of transport
agencies in the city was urged by
Mr. Stott (Ind.) in the Assembly1
this afternoon during discussion of
the Estimates in committee.
