Solar boat in line for record
ADELAIDE: High winds are hamper
ing the progress of a group of students
sailing down the River Murray on a so
lar-powered catamaran, but the crew is
on target to set a new world record.
The crew from Adelaide's Prince Al
fred College took to the water at Yarra
wonga in Victoria on December 4 in a
bid to travel to Murray Mouth near
Goolwa in South Australia, a journey
which would make the Sun Boat the first
solar-powered vessel to travel 2000km
on an inland waterway.
The crew hoped to reach Swan Reach
by last night, leaving about 250km to
travel. The group of 36 boys and 12 staff
take turns on the vessel they designed
and built.
