Motor race is
'too noisy'
SYDNEY: A motor race at Amaroo
Park Raceway in Sydney's north-west
suburban Annangrove was ruled too
noisy in the Land and Environment
Court yesterday.
Justice Stein decided the Australian
Racing Drivers Club was guilty of 11
breaches of its license regarding a race at
Amaroo Raceway on May 27, 1990.
The club faces a maximum fine of
$10,000 per offence.
Guilty of murder
BRISBANE: A Brisbane Supreme
Court found a Gold Coast man guilty
yesterday of murdering a South African
tourist last Boxing Day. Shane Sebastian
Davis, 20, of Burleigh Park, had pleaded
not guilty to murdering Michelle Cohn,
19, at a Gold Coast apartment where she
had been holidaying with her family. He
was sentenced to a mandatory life term.
Misconduct charge
SYDNEY: A veterinary surgeon has
been charged with professional miscon-
duct over the death of a pregnant rott-
weiler. The vet's failure to remove five
pups from the rottweiler resulted in its
death, the Veterinarian Surgeons Disci-
plinary Tribunal was told yesterday.
Raymond Arthur Burton, 46, of New-
castle, has denied the allegations.
Liquor king gets bail
MELBOURNE: A jailed discount li-
quor king, Dan Murphy, was released on
bail yesterday pending an appeal against
his conviction over a $2 million sales tax
fraud. Justice Smith told the Supreme
Court there was "a very grave risk" Mur-
phy, 73, could die in jail from a heart
attack or stroke.
Manslaughter
SYDNEY: A Sydney man was granted
continuing bail yesterday on a man-
slaughter charge related to the shooting
of five-year-old Tess Debrincat four
years ago. Wayne Attard, 35, of Kur-
mond, appeared briefly in Blacktown
Local Court. The matter was adjourned
to December 9 for mention.
