Commonwealth Games representa
tive Lorraine Jachno (AIS) recorded the
second fastest 10,000m time in Australia
last Sunday, during the Victorian Walk
ers Club championships in Melbourne.
Her time, 45min 25sec, slashed 37sec
off her previous best time of 46min 2sec
recorded in May 1989 and broke the
Olympic Games qualifying standard by
lmin 35sec.
The achievement is a great boost to
Australia as she leaves for San Jose with
Kerry Saxby, Sue Cook, Sharon Schny
der and Nat Camplin for the world walk
team championship next week.
Jachno led from the start to beat Vic
torian 5000m champion Celia Massie.
