ACT girls only
unbeaten team
left in Perth
After the completion of the round-robin section at
the national secondary girls' softball titles in Perth,
the ACT emerged as the only unbeaten team.
Yesterday, the ACT escaped with a fortuitous 3-2
victory against host team WA and the day before they
beat Queensland 4-3 and Victoria 5-3.
Against Queensland, the ACT began slowly and
made a few basic errors. Pitcher Kylie Axelby gave up
a few safe hits, but then Kate Tetley was brought on
to the mound and she shut the Queenslanders down,
giving up just one safe hit. 1
Going into the bottom of the second inning, the
ACT trailed 0-3 but Shelley Moore led off with a (
stand-up double and was later batted in to narrow the (
margin. In the third inning, the ACT scored three
more runs to take the lead, which they kept {
The game against Victoria went to nine innings.
The ACT had 10 safe hits in this game with three
going to Emma Housden while Moore (2), Mary-anne
Isles, Jodie Warton, Kate Wrigley, Mandy Wilson
and Tetley had the others.
Yesterday, the ACT led off with a run in the first
innings but WA responded immediately. In the bottom
of the fifth WA took a 2-1 lead. i
Tomorrow, the ACT will play the winner of the 1
WA-Queensland game for the right to direct access to '
the ^rand final.
