RUSSELL HILL
On Friday, 30th December, Mr. and
Mrs. Holmes had the misfortune to be
burnt out, losing everything, including
household furniture, personal effects
and clothing. The sympathy of
residents is extended to them in of the
loss of their home.
During the Xmas ' holidays dances
were held in the hall, and were very
well attended, everything going with
a swing.
The Social Service Committee gave
a picnic to the children on New Year's
Day. They were taken to the Cotter,
and a very happy time was spent by
both children and adults. It is desired
to tender thanks to Mr. R. H. Dob
son for the transport of the party to
and from the Cotter.
Now that the holidays are a thing
of the past the settlement is rapidly
reverting to normal, and the inhabitants
are anticipating a very happy
and prosperous New Year.
A dance will be held as usual on
Saturday night, and the Merrymakers'
Orchestra will be in attendance as
usual.
The
Russell Hill Xmas Tree proved
a great success. It was carried out on
Friday, December 16, under the auspices
of the Russell Hill branch of the Social
Service Association. There were about
220 children and about 150 adults
were present. Among the visitors were
Canon Ward and Mrs. Ward and Mr.
and Mrs. Gee, Mr. Fenton and Mr.
Honeysett. Canon Ward gave a short address
on the origin of Father Xmas,
which was very well received.
