Qbn names
big 'squad
for Demons
By BARRY ROLLINGS
Queanbeyan has named a big
squad for today's ACT Australian
Football League match of the day
against Southern District as an in
surance against injuries from yes
terday's representative match
against the Riverina Football
League.
The undefeated Karabar Supa
barn Tigers will meet the improv
ing Southern District at Football
Park, Phillip, at 2.15pm.
Getting back to somewhere near
full strength, the improving De
mons tested Weston Creek last
week and went down by two points,
10.12 (72) to 11.8 (74) despite hav
ing 22 scoring shots to 19. They will
test Queanbeyan in what shapes as
a danger game for the Tigers.
The Demons will be out to elimi
nate the slow start from the reper
toire after it proved so costly in the
first quarter last round, when they
trailed 7.2 (44) to 2.2 (14) at the first
changed but, amazingly, allowed
the Wildcats only 4.4 for the rest of
the game.
Queanbeyan had a much heavier
commitment — seven players —
to yesterday's NSW CUB Champi
onship final than Southern District
and that fact will be uppermost in
the mind of head Demon, Brett
Hannam and his men, if Queanbe
yan decides that any or all of its
stars will back up.
Queanbeyan has named 27 from
which six names will have to be
omitted to arrive at the final 21.
Veteran Doug Daniel will be
missed today after injuring his
shoulder last weekend against Bel
connen. There is plenty of experi
ence in the possible replacements,
Robert Regent, back from illness,
Robin Schelberger, Lance Drum,
Phil McClure, long-kicking Robert
Anderson and Jarrod Baker.
Southern District has named a
squad of 24, with Peter Bolam back
from suspension, Sean Giddings
from injury and Nick Vozella, Greg
Walker and Stefan Jerga vying for
selection. The only omission at this
stage is the injured Justin Fuller.
Tomorrow, Ainslie plays Belcon
nen at O'Connor Oval and Tug
geranong is at home to Batemans
Bay at Wanniassa Oval. All games
are at 2.15pm and Weston Creek
has the bye.
