for T-bone
A Cooleman Court butcher who had
meat advertised at one price but at
tempted to sell it to a customer at a
higher price, was convicted and fined
S500 in Canberra Petty Sessions yester
day.
Mr Zollan Gyuala Varga, of Sheehan
Street, Pearce, was convicted in his
absencc by Mr Cahill, SM, of con
travening the Law Reform (Mis
representation) Ordinance.
Mr John Casburn, a Consumer Af
fairs Bureau investigator, told the court
that the customer had complained that
Mr Varga had T-bone steak advertised
in his shop, GS Meats, at $4.99 a
kilogram, but had attempted to seii it
at S5.69 a kilogram.
Cassette theft
A man who pleaded guilty in Can
berra Petty Sessions yesterday to eight
charges of stealing video casettes from
three Woden Shopping Square stores
was convicted and fined $850 by Mr
Cahill, SM.
Two police witnesses told the court
that the man had admitted stealing 45
video cassettes, valued at more than
S2.000, from David Jones, Norman
Ross and J. B. Young's, between July
8 and September 23. He had also ad
mitted stealing a garden trowel from
David Jones on September 16.
Mr George Sarantopolous, 48, of
Benacchi Street, Mawson, was released
on a $500, two-year good-behaviour
bond and was fined a total of S850.
