Soviet Union buys grain
from United States
WASHINGTON, Wednesday (AAP-Reuter)
The Soviet Union has made its first major grain
purchase in the US for more than six months, the US
Agriculture Secretary, Mr Block, announced yester
day.
American exporters recently reported sales of
750,000 tonnes of corn, worth SA67.5 million, for
shipment next year, he said.
The Soviet Union, currently harvesting its second
consecutive poor grain crop, was expected to make
further purchases which, he said, would not be
restricted.
