Viewers switch on !
to Network 28
Network 28's first weekend in Can
berra was a great success, according to
the results of a telephone survey con
ducted for the Special Broadcasting
Service.
The survey, conducted by Rcark Re
search Pty Ltd from the Friday to
Sunday, indicated that the network had
been watched in half of all Canberra
homes with UHF-receiving capacity
[about 74 per cent] that weekend.
More than 65 per cent of people
questioned had found the network's
programs more interesting than those
on the ABC and Capital 7 and about
70 per cent of viewers said it was likely
they would watch the network con
sistently.
The network's 'World News' was the
most popular program - following the
pattern of popularity it has in Sydney
and Melbourne.
Other popular programs were Fri
day's 'A Square of Sky' and 'Interna
tional Cabaret', and Sunday's 'Great
Cities of the World'.
About 32 per cent of viewers said the
quality of reception was better than on
the other two stations; 44 per cent said
it was about the same.
A network spokesman said yesterday
that the opening in Canberra had been
a great success and that the city's
viewers were showing the lead to their
Sydney and Melbourne counterparts by
proving that Network 28 was a main
stream television service with some
thing for all Australians.
