Gas price to rise in NSW
SYDNEY: The pricc of natural gas
in NSW will rise by an average of about
20 per cent in two stages from Novem
ber.
The general manager of the Aus
tralian Gas Light Company, Mr
Maurice Williams, said the NSW Gov
ernment had authorised the increase for
gas sold in Sydney, Bowral and Mit
tagong following a recommendation of
a board of inquiry last December.
He said the increase would be applied
in two equal stages, the first beginning
on November I and the second begin
ning on February 1.
The size of the increase would van
with the quantity of gas consumed, but
it would average 10 per cent in each
stage. It was the first price rise for
natural gas in the three areas since
1975.
The increases would not apply to
large businesses on special contracts
because such contracts contained auto
matic adjustment clauses related to
consumer price index movements,
haulage and producer price increases.
