Anti-litter drive
not backed: Blunn
The City Manager,
Mr Tony Blunn. said
last night that the De
partment of the Capital
Territory had tried for
many years to make.
people aware of the so
cial and monetary costs
of litter but had failed
because it did not have
support of the com
munity.
Speaking at the in
augural meeting of the
Keep Australia Beautiful
Council (ACT) at the
Griffin Centre, Mr Blunn
said he hoped the ACT
council would be more suc
cessful.
About 40 people, includ
ing representatives of in
dustry and the Depart
ment of Environment,
Housing and Community
Development, were pres
ent.
A representative of
Coca-Cola, Mr Mark
Lovcday, spoke on behalf
of the packaging industry.
He said his company was
concerned with litter and
pledged its support for the
Keep Australia Beautiful
Council in the ACT.
Ten people were ap
pointed to the committee
at the meeting: Mr Craig
Forstcr, Mr Tim Pearson,
Mr David Heirn, Mr Mark
Lovcday, Mr Jack Snow,
Mr Vic Martitius, Mrs
Monica Glen, Mrs Fran
Weir, Mr Peter Gabler,
and Mr Ken Try.
Australian Consolidated
Industries gave a cheque
for S500 to the council.
