Qld electoral
boundaries
changed
BRISBANE. Tues
day. — Sweeping
changes to Queens
land's electoral bound
aries were announced
today.
There will be seven com
pletely new seats in and
^around Brisbane.
Under the redistribution
there will be 82 State seals,
an increase of four. The
' State has been divided into
four zones.
Three existing seats, two
held by ALP members, and
one by the Liberal Party,
have been dropped.
Instead of the old metro
politan zone, which had 28
seats, there is now the
south-eastern zone which
will have 47 seals taking
in Brisbane.
The seven new seals arc
Pine Rivers, Wolston, Red
lands. Evcrlon. Lytton,
Mansfield and Archcrfie'd.
A new seat has also been
added to the Gold Coast,
giving the area three elec
torates.
The Premier, Mr Bjelke
Petersen, said today the
Country Party would ob
ject to the seats redistribu
tion. Many CP members
would be unhappy with
their new electorates, he
said.
Urgent
talks
He is expected to hold
urgent talks with the
Country Party president.
Mr R. L. Sparkes, who also
has criticised aspects of the
redistribution.
The Liberal Party State
President. Mr E. L. Robin
son, said he would not
comment until he had
studied the maps closely.
The Opposition Leader,
Mr Houston, said the new
electoral map looked "as
if it has been walked on
by a cockroach with Ink
on its feet".
He said he found it hard
lo understand why the
ilectorates were such odd
ihapes.
"Brisbane's population is
airly evenly distributed
ind surely all these strange
ooking electorates arc not
iceded", he said.
