$100,000 Melbourne
Cup (2m) run at Flcm
ington next Tuesday.
Higgins had been
offered the mounts on
Skint Dip, Arctic Sym
bol, Not Again and
Tavel in the cup.
He rode Skint Dip to
victory in the 13-furlongs
Mooncc Valley Cup last
Saturday when the galloper
was making his Australian
debut.
It was his first outing
for three weeks, and Hig
gins said that race would
do the stayer the world of
good.
After Higgins had made
his decision, veteran jockcy
Alan McLean was engaged
to ride Arctic Symbol, and
former Queensland jockcy

tomorrow's Werribee Cup
with Hill as his jockey.

Winder said that Skint
Dip would be given a simi
lar workout on Thursday
morning, before starting in
the weight-for-age McKin
non Stakes at Flemington
on Saturday.
? Big Philou showed he
has brightened up since
being scratched from the
Cox Plate at Moonee Val
ley last Saturday with a
pleasing workout at Men
tone. He covered 11 fur
longs and 20yd in 2:43.5,
but was hard held by ap
prentice Norman Wey
mouth.
Silver Knight
blew hard
Caulfield Cup winner
Gay Icarus looked very
forward in condition as he
strode over 11 furlongs,
then covered five furlongs
in 1:13.0.
At Flemington, Silver
Knight ran 10 furlongs in
2:17.5, the last three in
39.7 seconds. However, he
blew hard after the gallop
which suggests he will be
topped off l>y A run in
the McKinnon Stakes on
Saturday.
Vansittart worked with
Cove over 10 furlongs in
2:21.2, the last seven in
1:24.2 on the course proper
where the going was good.
Tavel appeared fully fit
over nine furlongs in 2:09.2
(he last three in 40 seconds,
lie worked with Young
Palentine but could easily
have beaten that horse if
given full rein.
Most horses cut into the
track as heavy overnight
rain has turned the going
from fast to good.
