UNCLEAN SCHOOL A
DANGER TO HEALTH'
The headmaster of
Page Primary school, Mr
J. Morris, insisted last
night that the cleaning
of the school buildings
was unsatisfactory.
He was commenting on
a statement made by the
Department of the In
terior _ yesterday which
said it had received re
ports from its cleaning in
spectors that the standard
of cleaning in the school
was satisfactory.
Mr Morris said teachers
in the infants' section of
the school had decided
yesterday that unless class
rooms were cleaned prop
erly they would not allow
children into the rooms
and would take them to
other parts of the school
or outside for lessons.
There had been a con
stant problem with clean
ing of school buildings,
Mr Morris said, and he
had put his complaints in
writing to the department
a number of times.
When teachers arrived
yesterday morning rubbish
from church meetings and
Sunday-school lessons held
in the infants' section of
the school wns still there.
Mr Morris said the
dental clinic had not been
cleaned for a week, and
this created a definite
health risk to the children.
Cleaning of schools is
done under contract to the
Department of the Interior
by cleaning firms, part
time workers or people
needing second jobs. Mr
Morris said there had been
a succession of cleaning
contracts let during the
I year.
