I Canberra race
meeting in
doubt
By JOHN HOURIGAN
Heavy rain late last
night cast a doubt as to
whether the Canberra
Racing Club will pro
ceed with today's race
meeting but a final de
cision will not be made
until stewards inspect
the track this morning.
The club also has to take
into consideration the state
of the enclosures and this
may have a greater bear
ing on the decision than
the state of the track
which, although heavy,
should be safe.
Two proven . wet-track
horses likely to come in
for support are Linden in
the Flying Handicap and
Firm Bid in the Majura
Handicap.
Linden has taken time to
regain form this prepara
tion but then again the
hard tracks in recent
months have not suited
him. At his last start he
finished solidly for a fifth
to Berrinup in a Trial Han
dicap at Warwick Farm
on July 3 and with track
conditions in his favour
today he must be rated a
definite chance.
The speedy Grey Court
is also likely to be well
backed in the same race as
his recent efforts have been
first class.
Firm Bid, from the
powerful Jack Gordon
stable, showed a glimpse
of form when sixth in a
Canberra Flying recently
and the mile Handicap, in
which he has only lib over
the minimum, should suit.
