Parkland in
Lyneham
Sir, — I refer to a letter
by P. R. Jones, of Aranda,
published on October 8 re
garding preservation of
parkland.
We think he should get a
couple of facts straight.
"Magpie Hill", as it is
known, is the only park in
Lyncham. His observation
must have been very brief
to say this park is not used
very much.
He must also be confus
ing Southwell Park as
being another park in
Lyncham. If he had ob
served that area he should
have realised Southwell
Park is a large playing field
for sport.
As for the scout hall
being built in Haig Park,
perhaps P. R. Jones is not
aware that a scout hall was
burnt down in Haig Park.
This is not a new develop
ment but a replacement
development, to benefit the
Scouts.
We agree that parkland
preservation is important
to all Canberra suburbs
and still hope that all of
"Magpie Hill" will be pre
served, as parkland- only.
Not only for this gener
ation but for all future gen
erations to enjoy.
