Sonic boom
LONDON, Wednesday
(AAP-Reuter). — Gov
ernment fears of a public
outcry over sonic booms
from the Anglo -^French
Concorde jetliner ap
peared unfounded today.
Britain's version of the
Concorde made its first
cross-country flight yester
day while two million
people waited below, con
fidently expecting both
their homes and eardrums
to be shattered.
But the only trouble
came 43,000ft above the
ground, when one of the
Concorde's four Rolls
Royce engines overheated,
causing- test pilot Brian
Trubshaw to land on three
engines.
No blame
LONDON, Wednesday
(AAP). — The Labour
Party's national executive
committee, in a report yes
terday on the defeat in the
general election last June,
avoided pinning the blame
on Mr Harold Wilson, the
former Prime Minister, the
New York Times news ser
vice reported.

New trial

Indiana Supreme Court
reversed yesterday the con
victions of Mrs Gertrude
Baniszewski, 41, and her
oldest daughter, Paula, 21,
in the 1965 torture slaying
of Sylvia Likens, United
Press International re
ported. The court ordered
a new trial.

MONTREAL, Wednes
day (AAP). — Abdul
Malik, known as Michael
X, a leader of one of
Britain's civil rights orga
nisntions. said on Monday
night the British were
potential Nazis and had
set up "concentration
camps" in various areas of
London, the Associated
Press reported.

NEW YORK, Wednes
day (AAP). — New Y°rk
city hospitals performed
more than 11,200 abor
tions between July 1, when
the State's liberalised abor
tion law went into effect,
and August 22, the Health
and Hospitals Corporation
said on Monday, the New
