Arrests follow
body-in-well
murder
MELBOURNE,
Monday. — A 16-year-
old labourer and two
teenage girls have been
charged in connection
with Me1bourne's
body-in-the-well mur-
der.
Police detained a youth
at Footscray at 2.15am to-
day.
Later in the City Court,
Mr R. J. Kelly, SM, re-
manded a youth to the
Children's Court on a
charge of having murdered
a farmer, Mr Donald Smith
68, at Somerton yesterday.
Tonight, homicide squad
detectives charged two girls
with being accessories after
the fact of murder.
Detectives have seized
two cars and a .22-calibre
rifle believed to have been
used in the murder.
Smith was shot and
thrown 20ft down a well on
his Hume Highway farm,
12 miles north of Mel-
bourne.
