AIR INDUSTRY SACKINGS
Unions to plead
with ministers
MELBOURNE,
Tuesday. — Two
deputations will
meet Federal Gov
ernment leaders in
Canberra .to discuss
the recent retrench
ment of workers in
the aircraft indus
try.
Dismissal noticcs were
served earlier this month
on 111 workers at the
Government aircraft fac
tory, Fishcrmans Bend.
ACTU officers and lead
ers of union involved will
see the Minister for Labour
and National Scrvice, Mr
iBury, and the Minister for
Supply, Senator Anderson,
on Thursday.
The deputation, led hy
the ACTU president, Mr
Monk, will ask the Gov
ernment to withdraw the
dismissal notices.
Next week, a 14-man
deputation of union and
aircraft industry represen
tatives is expected to discuss
the issue with the Prime
Minister, Mr Gorton, and
other Government leaders.
Comprising officials of
four unions, the Common
wealth Aircraft Corpora
tion and Government air
craft factories, the deputa
tion will ask the Govern
ment lo provide outside
work in the motor trade as
was done before the Mirage
project was begun in 1960.
