EIGHT HOURSI
DAY
Procession Details
SPORTS CARNIVAL,,
:Sultry conditions were experi
enced for Eight Hours dDay, which
was celebrated in Goulburn to
day. The celebrations opened
with a procession to the Sports
ground, where a sports carnival
commenced about noon.
IHeaded by thile City'Band the pro
cession was a little more imposing
than has been the case in recent years.
Much capital was made of the election
campaign, and on this subject many
amusing sketches were made.
Included in the march were repre
sentatives of the primary schools,
BoyScouts, WVolf Cubs, I.O.O.F. Lodge,
decorated vehicles, unemployed, Tur
ner's used car ddesplay, many Labour
banners and placards, a few trade dis
plays, and several comic turnouts.
Probably tile most amusing sketch
was that of "Economy Joe," on Sir
Otto Niemeyer. This represented an
old motor car placarded with slogans,
and drawn by horses. The drivers
were attired in funereal garb, giving
the impression of masked under
takers.
Robinson Crusoe and man Friday
marched' beneath a huge and ragged
umbrella. Crusoe was well ai'med
with guns, pistols and aswords, and
Friday carried a coulple of spears. Tilhe
evergreen danrky tlurnoutls were also
in evidence.
Chief feature at this afternoon's
sports will .be the finisih of the first
stage of the Melblourne-Sydney road
race on thile Sportsground. Cyoling
and ath!etic events will be run off and
there will be a social ill the Lieder I
Hall at night.
