THE NAVAL BATTLE.
DREADFUL CARNAGE FROM
BRITISH FIRE.
ALL ENEMY'S SHIPS SWEPT.
LONDON, January 30.
The Germans rescued by the British
after the naval battle in the North
Sea last Sunday represent members of
the crews of every large ship and most
of the smaller ships comprising the
i aiding squadron
Horrified at the Minnie t m sod by
the British fire on the ii respective vessels
scales of the Ger- son sailors leaped
overboard preferring being drowned
to what they regarded is certain violent
death on board
The survivors state that practically
every German ship was swept by the
British shells and took fire, and was unable
to do more than trust to its
engines to take it out of action
The loss of life on board all the German
ships was not great
Some of the German sailors who
were rescued were found to be insane

were in the North Sea battle have

the British sank the protected cruiser
