THE HOBART REGATTA.
For more than three-quarters of a century
the Hobart Regatta has;, been held
in war and in peace and in good times
and in bad and the Betritt t Association
was well added to decide not to
break the continuity of the series this
year, things at the time when that
decision is as come to the outlook was
anything but promising later alia, I am.
Regatta Committee is not able to offer
this year as it did last year nearly
200 in prizes, but it is exceedingly
satisfactory to notice, that in spite of
the greatly modified scale of prizes the
entries both in the morning and in the
sailing events, are fairly well up to
the average The competitors have
shown true sportsmanship by meeting
the altered circumstances in this way
and there is no doubt that the competition
for the reduced price will be
just as keen and Mio interest in the
races just as lively as if the finances
of the Regatta there is good is they
were last year Curiously enough it
is in the barge laces in which the
committee made a special offer to make
the prizes well worth imagine"
for that the response has been peer
est The first-class huge fire in on
ticular lins long, list u end of the main
features of the Hobart Regatta but
under the altered conditions of the present
day it is becoming more and more
difficult to keep it up and it is doubtful
whether it will not have to be
abandoned Speaking, generally however
the prospects for the 77th Regatta
to morrow no test good and
fine weather is all that I needed to
secure its success The naval men who
have always contributed a great deal
of the fun of the Hearts will be all
sent this year can i 1 in much
gi mi mci occupations and they will be
missed 'We may hope that before the
next Regatta then work will have been
completed and peace to the
tory have been restored It is sails
factors to 1 othe that if Iel tells of the
hat the City Council is in accordance
with the agreement with Hu Regatta
Association done, something to an
prove the condition of the Regatta
ground which has in the past left so
much to be desired
