MAN'MJM DEFERE CLUB.
The mem1>ers 'of the' Mannutn Defence Rifle
Club hold tbeir annual meeting on Friday even
ing in the inftfitat*. In mportFo to inWteiinrjs
over 100 ladies and gentlemen attended. The
hall was tastefully .decorard wi<h flags arid ere^n
ery. Too much cannot be said in "praise of the
secretary (Mr. A. B. Aldenhoven) who ha? always
worked hard and consistently for tbe benefit of

names had been struck off the roll through deaths
and members leaving th<" district. At present
tbe roll shows.a membership of 50. 28 of whom
are active members... During the -year • several
changes had been mad**, in the committee for va
rions reasons. There 'had been two complet«
cup shoots held in January ami .Tune respec
tively. The first was" wnti by Mr. O. H. Wateon,
and the second by Mr. TP. W. O. Dahl, each
scoring 178 points. * The prize money. presented
by Captain Arnold, bad been won by. the fol
lowing" :—C. H. Watson. W. Kubank. C. P. At
kins, T, Roberts, .N. R. Haines, R. P. Latter. F.
A. Lawrence, and G. Reschke. For the highest
aggregate in 10 practice, medal? were presented
to C. H. Watson- Tind" W." Kubartk. The secre
tary's medal, presented for th** * highest score,
was won by F. W. O. Dahl. 97 points.. vilio was
closely pressed by W. . Kubank. with 95 and 96
points. The captain made spcciul reference to
Mr. Kubank. as he was only a young shot and
very enthusiastic. All active members, except
one. had completed tbeir clas^firing. seven gain
ing the marksmanship, and Ave first-class certi
ficates. Hie balance sheet was read and accep
ted. It showed a credit balance of £3 9/5 in
cash, and £12 worth of ammunition. Five new
members were elected. The following officers
were appointed for the. ensuing year :—Captain,
Mr. R. P. Latter; secretary. Mr. A. B. Alden
hoven ; treasurer. Mr. W. W. Gilbert : auditor.
Mr. J. R, Bas^by : ootnmiûee. Captain J. G.
Arnold. Messrs. P. Rafferty. T. Bartholemew, and
F. W. O. Dahl, together with the officers. It
was resolved that the Government shall be ap
proached for a subsidy to enable the club to
procure up-to-date pit targets, in place of the
old-fashioned and dangerous truck target? now
in use. Cardpfaying was indulged in until sup
per time, after which dancing was carried on
till midnight. Mr. J. Wilfcsch acting as M.C.
During the evening musical items were rendered
by Misse* Schnette and Wiesmann, and Messrs.
B. Stevens, G. Sutherland, R. L. Gold, ánd P.
