GOODWOOD Y. SOUTH UNITED.
wrva two wins so iDCir credit and their best
team, South United entered into friendly strife
with the magpies, who, however, were right on
the spot with tbeir beet talent, and although
far superior to ttae South io battery and field
work, were a trifle behind in the batting, a de
partment in. which the Unitcds were fairly strong.
Tbcy started to bat, and put on one through
a sice hit and clever base running by Buchanan.
Goodwood replied by registering three runt,1
C. Bo we, J. Kennedy, and ïî. Power getting :
right round the bases in fine etyie in their se
cond attempt. Soutb's scored one more, and
in their third failing, but annexing two in the
fourth from whence tiiey Jailed. Goodwood were
kept from scoring until the-seventh innings, when
a .beautiful two bagger from R. Kennedy brought,
home Woodforde, this equalised matters, and '
made the first draw for the season. Every ■
fieldsman on both sdes did his duty splen- '
didly, but compared the magpies come out top. :
N. Power (pitching) after an absence of several j
weefcs, was in excellent - form, and struck oatr
seven players, his pitting has fit# gone back
a trifle, which is saying a lot. JUichanan, for
the United, was not nearly eo good : not having
so much control over the carees as the former,
bat be Canned four, and his fielding 'was produc
tive of four assists. D. Hay (S.U.) ¡catching,
was not in the same- street, as it. Kennedy catch
ing for the magpies, the farmer was weak in
catçhing and throwing. 1 o second, having only
two out from eight throws. The latter never
showed better form, not one ball being missed
by Júsi, and his' throwing to second resulted in
eight men being put mit from his nine throws,
which is the best performance of this season.
Woodforde (G.) *iad 10 dismissals on first- against
Naughan's (S.U.) 12 oats, bet- Woodforde is un
doubtedly the finest first baseman m the State,
and his fielding was splendid, taking one fine
single handed catch oft a throw from third, dis
missing his man. Toughen, too, was clean and
sore, bat not so neat- as the other man, but
his performance wns almost as good. It is al
most impossible to compare the two second
basaren. C. Bowe being so far altead iu his
play to that of McCamm (S.U.), all t-hc thro v. s
from the Goodwood catcher were taken beauti
fully by Bowe, and Iiis dismiss*!? were clean
and remarkably quick ; 10 dismissals stand to
his credit. A fine performance for second base,
one being a fly nioely caught. McCarron had
two ou te, but had very little play. At short
atop the play was about even. J. Kennedy
(G.), however, held two fine Dys, both difficult,
and. accounting for one double play from a catch.
Miers (S.U.), had two smvsefttful throws to first.
At third base Laurenti (S.U.) was a trifle ahead
of Pretty (G.1, perhaps through having more
play, - his score was six assists, against Pretty's
two, bat both men fielded splendidly. The
country was represented by Troy and Hinten
(his first appearance) for the magpies, and both
were in splendid form, Hinton having one fine
fly to bold. Bruri?. Alford, and Daniels had
charge of the Sooth United's country. *md all
