BRITISH POST OFFICE.
--A.
DISCUSSION IN PARLIAMENT.
LONDON, June 11.
On A motion to reduce the postal
vote, the House of Commons yesterday
d crossed the spot t of the Select Committee
appointed, under the presidency.
of Mr R D Holt, the Liberal member
for Horsham, to inquire into the hours
and wages of postal employes. The
Committee recommended an additional
annual expenditure of £1,000,000 in in-
crease in salaries which, it was stated,
should occur at an earlier pi land, and
would thus be serviceable when the
pressure of glowing families is the
heat last
Members of both sides of the House
argued that the increases jecominciidcil
were inadequate
Mr C E Hobhouse, the Postmaster
General, in reply said it was impossible
for the Government to disregard the
, chorus of criticism, and he would ap-
point in outside body to inquire into
the whole question of the real union of the
State to its employees in regard to JC
remuneration and conditions of labour
The motion to reduce the vote was
negatived by 273 votes to 224.
