MR. R. W, JOHNSTON
Mr. Richard William Johnston,
who died on November 3, 1941, at
"Glenrock," Queanbeyan, the resi-
dence of his daughter Mrs. Frank
Quodling, at the great age of 98
years was a member of one of the
oldest families in New South Wales.
He was the youngest son of the
late Mr. John Johnston, of Hartfel, Clydesdale and Gunnedah Stations.
His grandfather, Mr. Andrew Johnston, came from Scotland with the
first fleet of the free settlers in the
year 1789. He took up land on the
Hawkesbury which he named "Portland Head."
Mr. R. W. Johnston spent his
early years on his father's stations,
he also had interests in Fiji. He married Miss Ethel Morgan, daughter of the late Frederick Morgan,
and sister of Thomas and Frederick Morgan, original owners of the fam-
ous Mt Morgan Gold Mine.
Mr R. W. Johnston retired many
years ago. He is survived by seven
daughters. His wife, two sons, and
a daughter predeceased him.
