FROM EVERYWHERE
Windows Damaged.
Robert Howard, 50, was remanded
at the Cowra Court on a charge of
damaging eight glass windows, two
mirrors, and a door, valued at £25, at
the Australian Hotel.
The Weather.
Following upon unsettled weather
on Tuesday night and again yester-
day, conditions in Goulburn to-day
were overcast and threatening. The
rainfall registration for the past 48
hours was 11 points, the reading at
9 o'clock this morning being only two
points.
Victoria Park.
Another 150 trees, which were
donated by Ald. A. Goodhew, were
planted at the Deccan Street end of
Victoria Park this week, this com-
pleting the city council's present tree
planting scheme. The beauty of the
park will be greatly enhanced by the
planting programme undertaken in
the last few years.
Costly Language.
Convicted at the Goulburn Police
Court this morning on a charge aris-
ing from indecent language, Terrence
Frederick Skelly, 29, was fined £2, in
default four days'. Mr. T. A. Doolan,
J..P., who was on the Bench, was in-
formed that Skelly used the language
in a loud tone of voice in Verner St.,
at 8.30 last night.
Car and Motor-Cycle
In the case before Judge Coyle in
the District Court, in which Edward
James Murphy claimed £50 from Reg-
inald Norman Morton, for expenses
incurred as the result of an accident
on June 29 when his motor-cycle col-
lided with Morton's cat, resulted in
favour of the defendant. A report
will appear to-morrow.
Scare for Constable.
Rather a good story is being told
of a Bega constable, who in company
with plainclothes officer Dunn, re-
cently interrogated a deaf and dumb
on Tathra road, states an exchange.
Constable Dunn, in order to test
whether the man was actually deaf
and dumb, shouted out, "Look out;
there's a snake." Whereupon the
other constable, who was standing
near, jumped for his life, but the deaf
and dumb man didn't move a whisker.
Record Show.
The 62nd show at Forbes was re-
cord-smashing. There were over
3000 entries, compared with 2500 last
year, and a record "gate" at £314/12/
showing an increase of £2 over last
year. A new high jump record was
created when Mr. L'Estrange's Plain
Eagle flew over the 7ft. 3in. bar.
Probably the increase in prizemoney
by £150 to a total of £500 was re-
sponsible for the unprecedented com-
petition in practically all sections.
At a smoke social at night £91 was
given in donations towards the next
show.
Gas Mask For Firemen.
A Davis gas mask has been for-
warded to the Goulburn Fire Brigade
and placed in commission. The ap-
paratus consists of a rubber face
mask fitted with glass eye pieces. A
metal union is attached to the lower
end of a corrugated tube for the pur-
pose of connecting the mask to the
cannister, which is carried on the
front of the body in a leather holder.
This type of cannister is made to
afford protection to the wearer from
all noxious gases. It contains granu-
lar absorbents arranged in layers
from the bottom to the top of the
cannister.
