Staff In No
Position To
Record Talks
No post office employee
was in a position at any time
to hear or record any con
versation that was given a
security ban, the Postmaster
General, Mr. Davidson, said
in the House of Representa
tive last night. .
He was replying to the De
puty Leader of the Opposi
tion, Mr. Whitlam, who asked
whether the 182 known phone
tappings which had taken
place since 1949 had been
carried out wholly or in part
by employees of the post
office.
Mr. Davidson said that the
matter dealt with the security
provisions existing in Aus
tralia and they were not dis
cussed in the House, particu
larly at question time.
