THE AGADIR INCIDENT.
DEATH OF OTTO MANNESMANN.
_ AMSTERDAM, November 14.
Otto Mannesmann!!, one of the brothers
famous in connection with the Agadir incident
in Bit, has been killed at Tahara
(in German East Africa),
It will be remembered that in 1911 a
breach nearly occurred between France
and Germany as the result of the lat-
ter's machinations!, to obtain a footing
in the mining industry of Morocco. In
April. 1911, The Sultan granted concessions
to the German firm of Mannesmann
Brothers, covering nearly one-seventh of
Morocco. This concession was obtained
by the German consul at TVz, after the
signing of a Franco-German agreement
establishing equality of treatment to the
two nations in respect of such concessions.
The.? German concessionaires declined
to give way, and obtained the
opinions of 13 authorities, who supported
their attitude. In (Jip middle of March
a formidable revolution had broken out
among the Barbers, and the French Government
despatched a relieving expedition
to protect French subjects. Germany
thereupon rant the gunboat Panther to
Agadir, on the pretext that the vessel
was necessary to protect German subjects.
As a matter of bet, there was
