SMALL-POX EPIDEMIC.
FIVE FRESH CASES.
SYDNEY, September 17.
To-day five fresh cases of small-pox
were reported Four of the patients
were in one house at Surry Hills, and
the other was at Erskinville Therefore
now at the Quarantine Station 70 patients
and 228 convalescents
Only 561 persons presented themselves
for vaccination at the public depots
This is a substantial decline from recent
figures It is considered likely that
people have been influenced by the erroneous
statement of the Premier that
the Board of Health had passed a loss
lution declaring that the disease now
epidemic in Sydney was not true small-pox
The board's resolution, which was
framed at the request of the Premier,
) ends -"That the board is satisfied
that the disease now present in Sydney
is an exceedingly' modified form of
small-pox, mild in its nature, and with
no tendency to change its type and
become more vaillent "
